The Next Generation of Wind Leaders

WINDPOWER 2016 is all about Generation Wind. It is within this generation that wind energy will break through to supply more than 10% of our electricity needs.  And it is this generation of young people who already know their future will be powered by wind energy because it is clean, cheap and abundant. Generation Wind will be on full display at WINDPOWER!

National KidWind Challenge

KidWindPNG.pngKidWind with support from GE Renewable Energy and AWEA will host the 2016 National KidWind Challenge at the AWEA WINDPOWER 2016 Conference & Exhibition! We are super excited to bring this event to WINDPOWER!

The National KidWind Challenge provides a venue for the top-scoring participants of local KidWind Challenge Events and the Online Challenge winners to compete. We expect more than 30 teams and 100 4th - 12th grade students to convene in New Orleans. The competition will involve wind tunnel testing, judging by engineering staff, instant competitions, and student presentations.

U.S. Department of Energy's Collegiate Wind Competition

DOE Collegiate Wind CompetitionReturning to WINDPOWER this year, the Collegiate Wind Competition will continue its objective of preparing students from multiple disciplines to enter the wind energy workforce. During the competition, undergraduate students will be challenged to design a wind turbine based on market research, develop a business plan to market the product, build and test the turbine against set requirements, and demonstrate knowledge of siting constraints and location challenges for product installation. Meet students as they visit your booths to learn more about your work and industry players; check out the students’ wind turbine prototypes during a special industry hour; and vote on your favorite design with our text-to-vote People’s Choice competition.

Emerging Leaders Program

As the wind energy industry has matured, so have our events and members. AWEA educational events are attended by a very experienced group of wind professionals and executives with two-thirds of the WINDPOWER registrants having worked in wind at least five years with a significant portion for more than a decade. This high value audience presents an opportunity to use our conferences to help grow and groom the next wave of industry leaders. The program also gives high potential staff the ability to attend and network with senior executives and each other. We are currently seeking Emerging Leader nominations as well as Mentor volunteers for this year’s program. The Emerging Leaders Program is sponsored by Siemens.
