Appalachian State University has had a Wind Application Center here for about 10 years that focuses on the study of wind energy. In October 2010, Clemson University broke ground at what will be a world class, state-of-the-art wind turbine drivetrain testing facility. The Center for Marine and Wetland Studies at Coastal Carolina University facilitates basic and applied research in coastal environments, processes and resource management. The Center has been an active partner with the overall South Carolina renewable energy team and been focused on marine observations, wind/wave and current modeling and assessments.
