Power Session: Long Term Vision for Wind Energy in the U.S.
Monday, May 6 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm
Exceeding wind pioneers' expectations, the wind energy industry has quickly developed into a mainstream source of energy. Mounting political, social and economic concerns regarding climate change, water shortages, along with other drivers, give the nation added incentive to bring more wind power to the U.S. electricity mix. The "Wind Vision" is developing now, and this Power Session brought attendees into the conversation. They heard from the top leaders and visionaries about the goal to create a more diverse energy portfolio through technology advancements, maintaining a strong domestic manufacturing base, advancing grid integration, and overcoming transmission and siting challenges. Also discussed were the U.S. Department of Energy's plan to launch a "Wind Vision" project, based on its 2008 "20% Wind Energy by 2030 Report”, as well as the vision expressed through AWEA’s Wind Vision – 2013 Road-mapping Effort initiative.
