Enhancing the Local Visibility and Value of Hosting WINDPOWER in America’s Energy Capital!
Houston is the energy capital of the world and we want to ensure the local community knows WINDPOWER is coming to town! In collaboration with industry leaders that call Houston home, and thanks to our generous community engagement sponsors, we have developed several initiatives that are helping spread the word through the Houston community.
Pinwheel GUST installation: This unique interactive installation is comprised of more than 1600 sturdy pinwheels that pivot naturally with the breezes. A network of LED lights illuminates the installation at night, and light patterns change based on the direction and strength of the breeze. We have extended the installation through WINDPOWER so take time to walk through and enjoy during the opening reception.
Renewable Energy Art Show: AWEA is partnering with the local art community to have a gallery on the show floor that showcases local artists who focus on themes related to renewable energy.
Earth Day: AWEA is exhibiting at Earth Day Houston on April 14, 2019 at Discovery Green. This large local event takes place across from the convention center. If you are based in Houston, please stop by and say hello!
Local Mural: We are working hard to secure space for a local artist to paint a mural that would promote wind energy in the local community before, during & after WINDPOWER. More details to come on this initiative!
Community Service Project: We are partnering with the Arbor Day Foundation via their Community Tree Restoration Initiative to restore trees lost to Hurricane Harvey. Donate to this project while registering or add to your existing registration in the Registration Resource Center.
Be sure to stop by the (Leave a) Legacy Lounge onsite during the conference to find out more about all of these local initiatives.
